The Regional Prevention Centers have fully engaged in the Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF), an evidence-based process that focuses on the following steps within the state of Kansas:
-
Build capacity and infrastructure at the state and local level to sustain effective substance abuse prevention strategies.
-
Delay the onset of substance use, including underage drinking, and reduce the progression of substance abuse.
-
Reduce substance abuse and related problems in targeted communities.
-
Develop a sustainable multidisciplinary structure to enhance prevention programs, policies, and practices.
The SPF Process is a detailed process that works through 5 core steps to ensure a comprehensive prevention in every community.
The Five Steps
-
Assessment: What does the problem look like and what resources do we have and need to solve it?
-
Capacity: How can we build resources we need, use the resources we have, and mobilize community members around the issue?
-
Planning: How do we put together a roadmap –a prevention plan -for addressing the problem?
-
Implementation: How do we put the plan into action?
-
Evaluation: How do we know that what we are doing matters, or that it is effective?
